‘Where the Weather Breaks’
Oil on stretched linen canvas, 33.3 x 28.1, 3.2cm, framed, 2026
Where the Weather Breaks comes from those moments on the East Strand in Portrush when the sky begins to lift and the light shifts almost without warning. The reference was taken as the weather cleared - clouds thinning, colour returning, and the sea catching brighter blues as the day opened up again.
The painting holds that in-between feeling: not dramatic, not settled, but quietly changing. Loose brushwork and soft transitions echo the way weather moves along the coast - never fixed, always passing through. There’s a sense of relief in it, a feeling of things easing rather than resolving completely.
In a home, this piece works as a gentle visual reset. It suits spaces where you pause or pass through - a hallway, bedroom, or living area - offering a calm reminder that conditions change, light returns, and there’s space to breathe again.
